How Tilelytix calculates your numbers

Every tile (metric cards, charts, the investor tile) uses the same calculation, so the numbers always agree with each other.

The building blocks

  • Revenue = income transactions + income from integrations you added to your finance.
  • Expenses = expense transactions + recurring costs charged on their billing dates + integration fees and refunds.
  • Net profit = revenue - expenses.
  • Investments = investment transactions.
  • Balance (today, all time) = investments + revenue - expenses.
  • Profit margin = net profit / revenue.

Recurring costs

A recurring cost is charged in full on each billing date, from its own start date until today (or its end date). Daily costs every day, weekly every 7 days, monthly on the same day of the month (the last day for short months), yearly on the anniversary. Nothing is counted for future dates.

A cost's price or billing date can change from a date onward: each charge uses the terms in force on its own date, so earlier months keep the old price.

An expense entry linked to a recurring cost (one of its payments) is counted through the cost's charges, not on its own, so nothing is counted twice. A linked entry dated outside the cost's dates (before it starts or after it ends) counts on its own. An entry that is not linked always counts on its own.

An organization can switch to Logged transactions only in Settings, Finance rules; recurring costs are then only a forecast and never added to expenses.

Runway and valuation

  • Monthly recurring costs: daily x 365 / 12, weekly x 52 / 12, monthly as is, yearly / 12.
  • Runway: balance divided by the average monthly net burn over the last three full months.
  • Valuation, per card: capital invested (default), book value (your balance), a multiple of the last 12 months' revenue, or an amount you enter.

Dates, currency and the fiscal year

  • "Today" is the organization's own time zone, set when it was created.
  • Amounts use the organization's currency. Integration income in another currency is not converted and is left out.
  • The fiscal year starts in April unless you change it in Settings, Finance rules.
